Ben

England

I spent one month at Rising Dragon School (RDS) in China, and it was my first time ever traveling to the country. I didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out to be an unforgettable experience.

Scott personally picked me up from the local airport and gave me a tour upon arrival. During the journey, he asked about my previous training and what motivated me to make the trip. I told him that I had earned a brown belt in Karate-Do and trained with weights back in the UK, but I was a complete beginner in Kung Fu. Having grown up watching Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan films, this experience felt like a dream come true.

The monastery was absolutely breathtaking, set at high altitude in the mountains with stunning views all around. I was introduced to the other students who would be there during my stay and to the monks who care for the monastery.

The rules were clear, and the itinerary was explained thoroughly. This was definitely a place of inner discipline, respect, and resilience. Before arriving, I barely knew what "cardio" was, but by the time I left, I was the second fastest in the uphill sprints and leading the morning runs around the grounds.

Physically, the transformation was incredible. For the first time in my life, I had visible six-pack abs, thanks to the consistency of the training and the delicious food provided during my stay.

I learned two styles that I really enjoyed: Yang Style Tai Chi, a slow and mindful practice of energy and movement, and Sanda, a form of Chinese kickboxing, which resonated with my Karate background. The 30 days flew by, and I found myself wishing I could have stayed longer!

Since my time at RDS China, I’ve taken up calisthenics. All the strength and conditioning I did during my stay was bodyweight-based, and I loved learning the control and mind-muscle connection.

Now, six years later, I’m a decorated calisthenics athlete, online coach, and the leader of a nationwide calisthenics organization, hosting regional and national championships.

I owe it all to the influence of Scott and Rising Dragon School.
