The Rising Dragon Martial arts School in China has been formed to teach the very best of Martial Arts. It is founded on the simple principle of having the very best world class Kung Fu Masters in the best setting for the teaching and practice of Chinese Martial Arts. It has taken over a year to prepare the School for both Masters and pupils and it will rapidly be recognised as a centre of excellence that all others will aspire to.
Set in a Global Geo Park of international renown, it is a World Heritage protected region totally in harmony with its wonderful natural settings. It is close to the Tourist attraction of the Big Golden Lake that is a place of almost homage for the Chinese. Its tranquil setting is spiritually calming and up lifting. The location of our Rising Dragon School was specifically chosen by a Feng shui Master and Bhuddist Monk, and the principles of Yijing. This imbues the land with Qi (Energy) for the practice of Martial Arts. The land is known as Tiger land in the art of Feng Shui. Tiger land mixing with our Dragon name provides the perfect location for Martial Arts and in its unsurpassed area of natural beauty means that few other schools could match this superb balance. Harmony is the key to all things.
We are able to teach and accommodate people of all backgrounds whether experienced or total beginners. We do have a medical Questionnaire to Complete but we are able to accommodate those with some conditions dependent upon the severity of these conditions and of course if and only if our teachings will be of genuine benefit.
We can accept all age groups but those 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
One of our aims is to produce a total environment where culture, class, race or creed are left outside and you will become part of a caring, friendly community. All members of that community must agree to dedicate themselves to their learning and to each other.
Having completed your training you will leave our school with much more then a knowledge of the Art you have practiced. You will have acquired a far greater understanding of yourself and an inner peace that will give you an enhanced self-worth and appreciation of the world and others.
Acupuncture
We wish to make it clear that this school does not teach or pretend to teach Acupuncture as some others may claim. Acupuncture is a Medical Art that takes years of training and although our training does involve pressure point attack for Martial Arts purposes this can not and must not be confused with Acupuncture.
Ranks/Levels of Chinese Martial Arts in China
There are 9 different levels to reach, 9th Duan being the highest.
For Taolu (forms) you have to be at least 8 years old and for Sanshou (kickboxing) the minimum age is 13. You need to apply to the CMAA (Chinese Martial Arts Association) if you would like to take a level test and you will have to do what the board of judges ask you to do on the day of the test.
The first 3 levels are the lower levels and you have to wait 1 full year in between each level test.
Every level test you will be asked to do more and will need to score higher marks too.
Once you have reached 3rd Duan you need to wait 2 years before you can attempt your 4th Duan test and 2 years after that for your 5th Duan and then finally another 2 years wait before you can take the 6th Duan test. Levels 4 ? 6 are the middle ranks and you will also need to perform a theory test and an essay consisting of at least 2000 words about your style.
Before you can obtain your 7th Duan you need to wait at least 6 years. After this time has passed you need to have done a certain amount of scientific research and have achieved a considerable amount of success. You also need to have studied theoretical study of martial arts and have contributed to sports development. Levels 7 ? 9 are considered high ranks.
For levels 8 and 9 you need to be at least 60 years of age and have contributed a great deal to martial arts scientific research, theoretical research and made significant achievements in martial arts and sports development.
As you can see the CMAA?s level system is not easy and takes many years of training, studying, dedication and hard work.
There are Shaolin Academies in China that claim their 25 year old master is a 7th or 8th Duan, as you can see above this would be impossible for someone of that age to have such a high rank. The same people also claim that you can come away a 2nd Duan after one year of training or a 4th Duan in 3 years! This is also impossible!
Not all martial artists in China take the level tests, they are totally optional and up to the person in question what path he/she wants to take. There are old masters in China who are very good and never officially took a level test but that does not mean they are not at a high level because they don?t have the little book to say it.
