Rising Dragon Martial Arts School is excited to announce that we will be expanding past Chinese Martial Arts and offering other styles from around the world starting with Brazilian Jujitsu.
Brazilian Jujitsu (known as BJJ) is a style that evolved from traditional Judo when the highly respected and undefeated Judoka Mitsuyo Maeda travelled to Brazil to spread Japanese martial arts. One of his students Carlos Gracie along with his family refined and adapted what they were taught into what we know today as BJJ.
The overall fighting strategy of Brazilian Jujitsu is designed to enable someone to defended themselves against and defeat a larger and stronger opponent. The secret behind this is the use of superior leverage and positioning to make up for any strength difference that may exist as well as knowing when to exert energy and when to save it.
The majority of BJJ techniques are ground fighting skills, as this is the most likely place you will end up when facing a larger and stronger opponent. However the full system also includes stand up techniques and takedowns as well as defence against weapons such as a baton, knife and gun.
Our BJJ instructor will be joining us August 2012. |
